First in our Priorities

By Pastor Troy Martin

This sermon explores the importance of putting God first in our lives through themes such as delayed obedience, misplaced priorities, loving obedience, and the presence and blessing of God. By examining scripture passages like Exodus 34:6-7 and Haggai 1:1-15, the message reveals how spiritual priorities should take precedence over material concerns and how genuine obedience, as emphasized in John 14:21, honors God. The sermon encourages believers to consider their personal priorities through the lenses of Romans 12:1 and Hebrews 12:6, ultimately guiding them towards a life that reflects God's will and blessings.

6And Yahweh passed over before him, and he proclaimed, “Yahweh, Yahweh, God, who is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding with loyal love and faithfulness, 7keeping loyal love to the thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and he does not leave utterly unpunished, punishing the guilt of fathers on sons and on sons of sons on third and fourth generations.”

1 Samuel 15:21-23

21The troops took from the plunder, sheep and cattle, the best of the things devoted to destruction, to sacrifice to Yahweh your God at Gilgal.” 22Then Samuel said, “Is there as much delight for Yahweh in burnt offerings and sacrifices as there is in obeying Yahweh? Look! To obey is better than sacrifice; to give heed than the fat of rams. 23For rebellion is like the sin of divination; arrogance is like iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of Yahweh, he has rejected you from being king!”

Matthew 6:23-25

23But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be dark. Therefore if the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! 24“No one is able to serve two masters. For either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You are not able to serve God and money. 25“For this reason I say to you, do not be anxious for your life, what you will eat, and not for your body, what you will wear. Is your life not more than food and your body more than clothing?
