Scripture from the sermon

Psalms 23:1-6

1Yahweh is my shepherd; I will not lack for anything. 2In grassy pastures he makes me lie down; by quiet waters he leads me. 3He restores my life. He leads me in correct paths for the sake of his name. 4Even when I walk in a dark valley, I fear no evil because you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5You prepare before me a table in the presence of my oppressors. You anoint my head with oil; my cup is overflowing. 6Surely goodness and loyal love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will stay in the house of Yahweh for a very long time.

He said, “Give it to the people and let them eat.” 43Then his servant said, “How can I set this before a hundred men?” He said, “Give it to the people and let them eat, for thus Yahweh says, ‘They shall eat and have some left over.’ ”

Isaiah 41:10-12

10You must not fear, for I am with you; you must not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, indeed I will help you, indeed I will take hold of you with the right hand of my salvation. 11Look! All those who are angry with you shall be ashamed and humiliated; your opponents shall be like nothing and shall become lost. 12You shall seek them, but you shall not find them; your opponents shall be like nothing, and the men of your war like nothing.

Isaiah 43:2-4

2When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not flow over you. When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not scorch you. 3For I am Yahweh, your God, the holy one of Israel, your savior. I give you Egypt as ransom, Cush and Seba in place of you. 4Because you are precious in my eyes, you are honored, and I myself love you, and I give people in place of you, and nations in place of your life.

Jeremiah 20:11-13

11But Yahweh is with me like a powerful warrior. Therefore my persecutors will stumble and will not prevail. They will be very ashamed, for they will not achieve success. Their everlasting insult will not be forgotten. 12Yet, O Yahweh of hosts, who tests the righteous, who sees the heart and the mind, let me see your retribution upon them, for to you I have revealed my legal case. 13Sing to Yahweh, praise Yahweh, for he has delivered the life of the poor from the hand of evildoers.
